Exporting to AFRICA

Written on the 8th of August 2009 by Famous Logistics

Africa is a developing continent, and some countries are far ahead of others when it comes to business practices and business development.

The best advice is to research each country individually and intensely before deciding whether to do business in Africa, as African countries are vastly different to the western world, and indeed, not all products and services are of any use or interest to a nation where the very basics are scarce.

Some African countries are suffering from famine, poverty, drought, and political unrest. You need to be aware of each individual country’s situation before attempting to locate an agent to do business with. Request business referrals from trusted business associates to ensure you do business with someone reliable, trustworthy and professional.

Language differences may be an issue in some African countries, but in others, such as South Africa, English is the accepted language for business.

Cultural differences may cause frustration, such as a vast delay in normal business practices, and misunderstanding over details you may consider common sense, so it is certainly recommended to only liaise with reputable companies and individuals with experience in doing business with the western world.
