The regular review of bunker costs has been completed for the Europe / Australia trades both imports and exports. The increasing costs of bunker fuel are reflected in the following new levels of Bunker Surcharge from 1 October 2009:

North America to Australia & New Zealand
The members of the USADA providing direct service to Australia and New Zealand from the United States have conducted the quarterly review of the Emergency Fuel Adjustment Factor (EFAF) and wish to advise that effective June 15th, 2009 the new EFAF will be as follows:

The Mexican Customs Authority had published rules 2.4.5 and 2.4.13 in the Governmental Official Gazette. These rules represent a change in the information required with the electronic transmission of import cargo. The main change is the mandatory inclusion on all Bills of Lading of Shipper,
Consignee and Notify TAX ID details. Section 7 & 8 of the new rules require:
7.- Name, Tax ID, complete address and telephone number of the consignee, or the actual owner of the goods, should this be different from the consignee. Name, Tax ID and complete address of the shipper of goods, and the person to notify upon arrival, as manifested on the Bill of Lading
8.- Full Description of the goods. Generic descriptions that do not properly identify the nature of the goods will not be allowed, for instance: “general cargo”, “dry cargo”, “chemicals”, “perishable food”, “bulk cargo”, “bulk minerals”. If these terms are included transmission will be considered as incorrect.
Hamburg Sud encourages all customers to make sure that all Shipping Instructions as submitted include: Shipper, Consignee and Notify Tax ID, telephone number, and address.
Any shipments that do not meet this new requirement may be subject to fines.

East Coast Australia to/from northeast Asia
We wish to inform you of important changes to our services between East Coast Australia and northeast Asia.
A number of carriers in two consortia have announced a service rationalisation plan aimed at withdrawing excess capacity from the market. This has been driven by the need to reduce operating expenses in poor trading conditions while still maintaining viable service levels and a comprehensive service network.
This will lead to changes to our Loop 2 service beginning with the Kaga V52S ETD Yokohama 2nd December. The new port rotation will be as follows:
Yokohama → Osaka → Pusan → Qingdao → Shanghai → Ningbo → Hong Kong → Kaohsiung → Melbourne → Sydney → Brisbane → Yokohama
